'The artist who swallowed the world'
To advertise Erwin Wurm's book 'The artist who swallowed the world' to the community of Fabrica Research Centre.
The surreal and bizarre works of Erwin Wurm - an Austrian artist of international fame - strike, amuse and make you think. His models have unexpected relationships with everyday objects, telling about human existence and the complexity of living.
Wurm in fact states that "My works speak of the whole entity of a human being on a physical, spiritual, psychological and political level". And again, “If you approach things with a sense of humor, people will immediately assume that you are not taking it seriously. I think the truth about society and human existence can be addressed in different ways. You don't always have to be serious. Sarcasm and humor can help you see things in a lighter way”.
Erwin Wurm's works – which are part of the permanent collections of many museums around the world - capture the anxiety and the desperation of the individual who lives contemporary reality.
